May 25th, 2008 - The new Doujin game that Touhou fans have been waiting for is finally release!
The anticipated Touhou Hisouten 10.5 - Scarlet Weather Rhapsody!
As you may know, Touhou is a popular danmaku (curtain of bullets). Touhou games feature beautiful 2D graphics and are known for their amazing bullet hell game play. The fighting game, Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (SWR), features many characters from recent Touhou games in their game play. It is made by Twilight Frontier, a doujin circle famous for their fighting games such as Eternal Fighter Zero. Twilight Frontier was also involved in the making of the popular Immaterial and Missing Power (IaMP). It had an unique system that combined shooting game elements with a fighting game engine. SWR, the sequel to IaMP, improved the game by a lot by adding new systems.
I haven’t actually tried the game yet, but from reading reviews, there are mixed reactions. The reason is because the developers did so many things right, and so many things wrong. After all, it is a Doujin game - a very small group of programmers that were not being funded or working for any company.
This game can be played both online (netplay) and offline. Some new things that have been added from IaMP are Flight, Card Decks, and Weather. I will be blogging my experience of SWR as soon as a get a copy ^^.
